The law applies to a wide range of public bodies, including school boards, city and town councils, and state commissions. It also extends to other meetings held in the same rooms as those governing bodies. The goal, according to bill author Rep. Ben Smaltz, is to boost transparency and counter misinformation by allowing citizens to see their government in action.
